Established around 1850, Davis Cemetery is a non-denominational Christian cemetery located in Land Lot 33 of the 18th District, 2nd Section of Cobb County, Georgia. Conveniently located on high ground at the intersection of three adjoining farms, the Davis Family, Gordon Family and Lowe Family agreed to set aside the area for burials. In 1898 local community leaders purchased additional land to be added to the historic cemetery in order to provide burial spaces for new family members and the increasing popluation of the area.
On Febrary 12, 1917 descendants of those buried in the cemetery, and local leaders, met at the Mableton Courthouse with the common purpose of expanding the cemetery, constructing a chapel and organizing the ownership and management of the cemetery under a Board of Trustees.
The chapel was contructed in 1917-18 for use during inclement weather providing services and shelter in connection with cemetery burials. Davis Chapel Baptist Church was organized in the chapel building on October 3, 1943 and the church subsequently purchased property adjoining the cemetery in 1944 for construction of a sanctuary. Davis Chapel Baptist Church and Davis Cemetery share the same name but there was never a legal connection between the two, both functioning independently. In 1990, Davis Cemetery & Chapel, Inc. incorporated as a non profit transfering ownership and control of the cemetery to the directors of the corporation who bear the responsibility of preservation and upkeep of the cemetery.
